Shizuka no Sakura Park
This renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing is connected to the legend of the lady Shizuka Gozen. A cherry tree on the grounds believed to be around 800 years old is said to have grown from a cane Shizuka Gozen stuck in the ground here before she died, unable to reunite with her lover the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The park's cherry trees bloom from late May to early June; dog cherries, a variety with lovely five millimeter blossoms similar to plum blossoms, are the first to bloom. Visitors can take in the beautiful cherry trees and surrounding rural landscape while pondering Lady Shizuka's sad tale.
