Sayu-Katahaiden
"The Suwa Taisha Shrine is an ancient Shinto shrine which has long been revered as the top-ranking Ichinomiya shrine of Shinano Province (now Nagano Prefecture). The head shrine of the more than 10,000 Suwa shrines across Japan, the shrine is known for its unusual lack of a honden front shrine. The Sayu-Katahaiden-style Hongu main shrine has Haiden prayer halls extending from both the left and right sides and is covered with a sheet copper shingle gabled roof. The Haiden prayer halls are designed in the karahafu cusped gable style. From the worship area, the Haiden to the right is the Sa-Katahaiden (""Left Side Haiden"") and the Haiden to the left is the Yu-Katahaiden (""Right Side Haiden""). Built by Tatekawa Washiro II, the stunning structures are covered with magnificent carvings of dragons, clouds, and countless birds."
