A long-standing confectioner that first opened in 1882 and has been making confections that convey the charm of Kyoto ever since. They continue to make delicate Japanese confections that show the passing of the seasons in accordance with the 24 divisions of the luni-solar calendar year. Their most famous confection is their Juraku steamed bun, made with a unique flavored dough and stuffed with red-bean paste that was once solely for the Jurakudai palace, which has been made by Shioyoshiken since their founding. It has a gentle flavor with a moderate level of sweetness. Their treats, which also express the seasons through their shapes, colors, and imprints, are also a feast for your eyes.

上生菓子と聚楽

上生菓子が食べたくて、念のため前日に予約をしていきました。7種類の上生菓子の中から4種類買いました。きんとんやうぐいす餅、上用饅頭などどれも素晴らしいお味でした。塩芳軒さんの名物「聚楽」も想像以上の美味しさで、大変すばらしかったです。

何時もは週に2回高島屋に出されるので、そこで購入します。今回は久し振りに本店まで足を運びました。やはり老舗の風格が十分な店構えですが、店の対応は結構そっけないです。京都にはたくさんの和菓子屋がありますが、私自身はベスト3に入ると考えています。何よりあんこの上品な甘さは他にはないものです。
