Hirono Makiba Observatory
"To reach this observatory, visitors should drive about 20 minutes from the Kunohe Interchange on the Hachinohe Expressway and follow the road inside the Ono Campus north for 1. 2 kilometers. Located on top of a peak with a clear view, Hirono Makiba Observatory was named ""the best place in Japan for viewing the stars"" in 2007. It is equipped with the largest telescope in northern Tohoku (51-centimeterdiameter reflecting telescope [IK-51NC]), as well as an H specialized solar observation telescope. It has a number of permanent and special exhibits, and visitors can view some of the finest selected astronomical photographs."
