Former Konoe Residence
Nishio City History Park was made by restoring a portion of the Nishio Castle grounds. This building on the premises is part of the former Konoe family residence, a Kuge (court noble) of Kyoto. It passes on the traditions of the tea ceremony. Structures consist of a library and a tea house built by the Shimazu family in the late Edo period when a daughter of their members married into the Konoe family. The elegant hanakugi nails and hana-akari window befit the tea house of such nobility. The library offers a seasonal Japanese sweet and matcha green tea set service. It's a good place to spend some tranquil time while gazing out at the lovely Japanese garden.
