This museum is located in Mitsusawa, Ogori City. It exhibits cultural assets excavated from archeological sites in the prefecture. These include prefectural-designated historical sites such as the adjacent Mitsusawa Ruins as well as the ruins of the medieval Dazaifu Administrative Buildings. Visitors can learn about the history of Northern Kyushu starting from the Paleolithic period through a variety of exhibits. One such exhibit features relocated archeological remains displayed under a glass floor.

新しい建物

小郡市に移転してまもないようで新しい建物です。最寄り駅は西鉄大牟田線の三国が丘駅、徒歩１０分ほどです。入館料は無料です。あいにく一部の展示室が改修中でした。中庭からはいわゆるバックヤード、保存復元の作業室などをみることができるようになっています。文化財の研究施設としても充実している印象を受けました。

まだ比較的新しい建物のようで、とても綺麗で開放感のある資料館でした。平日に行きましたがとても静かでガヤガヤしておらずゆっくりと鑑賞できました。
特別展「霊峰英彦山」開催中

小郡高校の隣にある福岡県立の歴史資料館です。太宰府から小郡に移転してまだ日が浅いせいか、外観も内観もいい感じに輝いています。ひと言で表現すると「凛」。 9月初旬の平日朝、特別展「霊峰英彦山」を見学し、英彦山の霊峰ぶりをガッテンしてきました。特別展は9月24日まで。65歳以上のシニアは無料。館内は写真撮影禁止。駐車スペースはタップリ。
