Eboshiyama Park
Just about 10 minutes from the Nanyo Takahata Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway, this park was built during the Meiji period by local volunteers, who planted around 160 trees of double weeping Edo-higanzakura cherry, making it one of the few sites in the world with such a grove. The park is located at a higher elevation that overlooks the Yonezawa basin with a panoramic view of the Akayu hot springs district, and the Agatsuma and the Iide Asahi mountain ranges in the distance. Along with the weeping Edo-higanzakura cherry, this site, having many trees over 100 years old and around 1000 weeping and Yoshino cherry varieties, is called the Eboshiyama 1000 Cherry Trees and has been selected among Japan’s Top 100 Best Sakura Sites.
