Takatoyama Park
"A park located on 124-meter high Mt. Takato. It is believed that a castle was located here in the middle ages. Today, an observatory is located on top of the mountain, and visitors can see all the way to Wakato Bridge in the east and Mt. Sarakura to the south from here. In the evening, the nightscape of Tobata Ward unfurls directly below, a view which has been dubbed the ""Kappa's hidden treasure box"" and which has been selected for inclusion in the Japan Nightscape Heritage list. Cherry trees, azaleas, hydrangeas, and other seasonal plants bloom on the grounds throughout the year. In particular, more than 70 thousand hydrangeas have been planted on the grounds, and in June the park holds the Wakamatsu Hydrangea Festival, attracting large numbers of visitors. Another must-see event is the Himatsuri Gyoji held in July, in which a procession of people carrying torches slowly weave their way to the top of Mt. Takato."
