Ruins of Mihara Castle
"The site of a ruined castle located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The site was selected for inclusion in the sequel to a list of Japan's 100 most famous castles in 2017. The castle was built by a Waring States period samurai lord Kobayakawa Takakage in 1567 to serve as a fortress and naval port; in its heyday, it was known as the ""Floating Castle"" as it appeared to float on the sea. Today, the stone castle base, moat, boat inlet turret, and middle gate still remain. JR Mihara Station stands where the castle tower base once was, and visitors can climb up to the concourse castle tower base on the first floor. In addition, the stone ruins of the boat inlet turret are inside the municipal Minatocho Park and thus can be viewed freely."
