Shiroyama Park
A 10 minute walk from JR Wakuya Station. This park is situated on the site of a residence on a small hill which belonged to the Wakuya Date clan. There's a history museum built like a castle tower which contains around 1,000 cultural properties with a focus on the Wakuya Date clan as well as items related to the history of the town and local folk culture. One of the original turrets, the Taikodo, still stands nearby and is the only original fortification structure found in the prefecture. The park is a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, and in the spring 120 year old weeping cherry, Yoshino cherries, hill cherries, and Sato-zakura cherries come into bloom. A cherry blossom festival is held at the park in mid-April.
