Sotodomari Stone-Walled Village
"This small village is located on an inlet on the western side of the Nishiumi Peninsula jutting out from the southwestern side of Ehime Prefecture. Consisting of a group of homes gathered close together on a steep slope, the village's orderly stone walls, built to protect the homes from typhoons and strong seasonal winds, has led to it being called the ""Stone-Walled Village."" The village has remained largely unchanged since the end of the Edo period and in 2007 was selected as one of the 100 Most Beautiful Japanese Historical Landscapes. The village holds a doll festival called the Dandan Hina Festival from March through April each year. During the festival, works of art and stones painted to look like traditional hina dolls in honor of the village's famous stone walls are put on display. Also during this time, the village is lit up at night, creating romantic, magical scenery."
