Toyama Prefectural Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Center, Forestry Research Center
The Toyama Prefectural Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Center, Forestry Research Institute is located a 15-minute walk from Iwakuraji Station on the Toyama Chihou Railway in Nakaniikawa County in Toyama Prefecture. It focuses its research on creating healthy forests, maintaining a sustainable forest industry, and producing woodland crops such as mushrooms. On the grounds of the Institute is an arboretum that the general public can visit from spring to winter at no charge. Trees growing in the arboretum include camellias and snakebark maples, along with plants such as Solomon's seal and kudzu. Visitors will see 23,000 trees of 350 varieties. There is a building where they can view the trees from a high vantage point and see a reconstructed charcoal oven.
