Lake Fujiwara
This reservoir was created by the construction of the Fujiwara Dam on the upper reaches of the Tonegawa River. Completed in 1959, it's the oldest in the Tonegawa River system. The multipurpose dam generates electricity, regulates the flow of water downstream, and supplies water to the capital. In spring when the snow melts you can see water being released from the dam to adjust its flow. There is a large park at the lakeside featuring an aquatic plant garden and a pond with Asian skunk cabbage. Flatwater kayaking is available at the lakeside, too. The Lake DESCENTE Fujiwara Marathon is held in summer.
