Makomanai Park

A park situated along Makomanai-dori Street in Minami Ward, Sapporo City. Facilities include the Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena and Makomanai Sekisui Heim Stadium. The park was used as the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the skating competitions of the 1972 Sapporo Olympics. Situated along the Toyohira river, the park is naturally lush and a renowned destination for fall foliage and spring cherry blossom viewing. Visitors can also enjoy other seasonal flowers like dogtooth violets and lavender.

１９７２年に札幌冬季オリンピックが開催されたスタジアムで、ちょっと古くなってはいますが聖火台も健在です。現在は外壁の補修工事が行われています。毎年７月にはここを会場として真駒内花火大会が開催されます。広々とした真駒内公園の中にあり、周囲には１周３キロメートルのジョギングコースも整備されています。

1972年札幌オリンピックの開会式場。設計は1970大阪万博の鉄鋼館も手がけた前川國男。コルビュジエの弟子、前川にして最大の建築。開会式の収容人員とコストの制約を、土木造園的な盛土で解決しているところが見どころ。
