The Jozankei Dam is located on the Otarunai River, a part of the Ishikari River system, situated along the scenic Jozankei Lakeline road in Jozankei, Minami Ward, Sapporo City. Completed in 1989, the dam is used for flood control, water supply, and hydroelectric power generation. The Jozankei Dam Museum provides information on the workings of the dam and the surrounding natural environment. Other area facilities include a park downstream; an observatory; and Lake Sapporo, a dam lake. Visitors can enjoy the area's seasonal scenery, including spectacular fall foliage in autumn.
