Saigo Park
A park located a three-minute walk from Kagoshima Airport. The park’s statue of the samurai Saigo Takamori is the largest statue of a person in Japan. The park has a museum which displays 53 color prints depicting the Satsuma Rebellion and which contains exhibits on Saigo Takamori and the Meiji Restoration, including military uniforms and historic episodes. The museum also has a shop which sells Kagoshima and local Kirishima souvenirs and gifts like Kagoshima’s famous satsuma-age deep fried fish paste and Kirishima tea. Visitors can also purchase Mini 4WD miniature battery powered cars and race them on a provided track.
