Kamou Hachiman Shrine

Shrine
A Shinto shrine located a 20-minute drive from Kagoshima Airport. Records state the shrine was founded in 1123. A towering giant camphor, the largest in Japan, stands on the grounds. In addition to a bronze mirror designated a National Tangible Cultural Property, the shrine possesses 117 other ancient bronze mirrors, the largest such collection of any shrine in the prefecture. The shrine office sells talismans, ema votive tablets, and charms for scholarly efforts and safe childbirth. The second floor of the shrine office is an observatory where visitors can enjoy a leisurely cup of tea along with a view of the giant camphor.
