Ameyoko Center Building
This building is a veritable symbol of the Ameya-Yokocho open-air market. The above-ground floors host an array of shops and stores, including many unusual establishments such as a souvenir jacket specialty shop. Like many Japanese malls and department stores, the basement floor is home to various food shops and grocery stores, but the selection on offer is completely different from the fare normally found in such so-called depa-chika areas. Here spices, seasonings, and foods from China, Thailand, and other Asian nations as well as countries around the world are sold. In the perishable food sections, you'll find ingredients virtually never used in Japanese cuisine, like pig noses, chicken feet, and Chinese mitten crabs.
