Aosagaura Church

This cathedral is located in Namago, Shinkamigoto Town, Minami-matsuura County. The first church building was built around 1878, and the current third generation building was built in 1910. Designed by Yosuke Tetsukawa, known for helping with the construction of many churches in Nagasaki, believers are said to have made and carried the bricks from the coast. It has been designated a nationally important cultural property.

奇麗なレンガ造りの天主堂です。

赤いレンガでできた天主堂です。五島で多くの教会を建てられた鉄川与助さんによる竣工です。このレンガを運んだのは女性とのことで、大変だったと思います。形の整った天主堂だと感じました。レンガの色と上に設置されている十字架の調和がとれているように感じます。この日は12時の鐘と、12時3分の鐘の音を聞けました。
外観しか見られませんでしたが立派でした

緊急事態宣言は解除されましたが、内覧は制限して金土日だけで、残念ながら中を見ることはできませんでした。外観は素晴らしかったです。

青砂ヶ浦にいつごろからキリシタンが住んだか不明だが、1878年頃には初代教会があったという。1899年から青砂ヶ浦が上五島の中心の教会となった。1910年建立の現教会は、鉄川与助設計施工によるもので、信徒が総出でレンガを運びあげた3代目の教会となり、2001年に国指定重要文化財、2010年に献堂100周年を迎えたとありました。
