Sakurai Shrine
A Shinto shrine located in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Founded by Kuroda Tadayuki, the second lord of Fukuoka Domain, the shrine served as a base for the Shinto faith in the region. The Sakurai Daijingu Shrine is also located southwest of the main shrine and enshrines a portion of the deity enshrined at the famous Ise Jingu shrine. Each year between late April and early May on the Sunday of the spring tide, a festival is held to celebrate the replacing of the giant sacred rope connecting the Sakurai Futamigaura Husband and Wife Rocks.
