This art museum is located in Akaoka-cho, Konan City. It stores the folding screen paintings by the late Edo to early Meiji period painter Ekin (Hirose Kinzo) that are displayed at the Suruda Hachimangu Jinsai festival held on July 14 and 15 each year. One exhibit allows visitors to view the folding screen paintings in the same dark setting as the night of the festival. Another allows visitors to view the paintings through a literal hole in the wall. The museum regularly rotates the paintings that are on display. It also features exhibits about the life of Ekin.

土佐の田舎の“国宝もの”、たしかに“恐ろしく美しい”。

期待通りの屛風絵です。本物は覗き見で見ること可能な２点だが、複製展示の絵も迫力満点、たしかに“恐ろしく美しい”。2020の絵金祭りは中止と聞きましたが、次回の祭りが楽しみです。

歩いて行くと、絵金蔵（えきんぐら）に到着だ。おどろおどろしい絵金の絵が展示されている。その向かいが弁天座（べんてんざ）こちらは新型コロナウイルスのせいで閉館中。庄屋の屋敷跡だ。

赤岡生まれなので子供の時から絵金はよく見ていましたが、改めて説明歴史など詳しく紹介されていて勉強になりました。見せ方も工夫されてますが、興味のあるなしで評価が別れるかも。残念なのはバリアフリーでないところ。赤岡町民の親が足が悪いからいかれないと言ってました。
