Ashino Park

Place famous for cherry blossoms
"Located within easy walking distance of Ashino-Koen Station on the Tsugaru Railway Line, Ashino Chishogun Prefectural NaturalPark is a natural park covering an area of around 612 hectares, adjacent to Osawanai-tameike Pond in Nakadomari Town and Fujieda-tameike Pond (Lake Ashino) in Goshogawara City. Both Ponds are man-made, but they have been managed to support rich communities of riparian and aquatic plant life. The park is also one of the best places on the Tsugaru Peninsula to view cherry blossom, and has been included in the list of ""Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots."" There are around 2,300 cherry trees in the park, including the Yoshino variety, etc.; the ""Kanagi Cherry Blossom Festival"" is held every year in late April. The park is also famous for its association with the author Dazai Osamu, who often visited here when he was a boy."
