Akashi Kaikyo Bridge

Bridge
Spanning the Akashi Kaikyo Straits and connecting Kobe City to Awajishima Island, this is the world’s longest suspension bridge with a total length of 3,911 meters. Construction started in 1988 and it was completed 10 years later in 1998. The main pillars of the bridge reach a height of approximately 300 meters from the surface of the water below, and at night the suspension cables are illuminated in a variety of colors. There is also a tour available called Akashi Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge World that allows visitors to pass through the inspection passageways in the main towers, which are normally off limits, while listening to information about the bridge’s technology and history (reservation required).
