Hozenji Yokocho Alley

Despite its location in the bustling Minami area of Osaka, a still and ancient air hangs about Hozenji Yokocho Alley reminiscent of old Naniwa (Osaka). This stone-paved alley, famous in part through Sakunosuke Oda’s novel Meoto Zenzai, is crowded with some 60 tiny restaurants and bars. In total, the alley is around 80 meters long. Throughout the day, the alley is visited by an unending stream of people. In the afternoon, you can visit the Hozen-ji Temple, nicknamed the “Mizukake Fudo,” or enjoy a bowl of sweet red bean zenzai soup; at night, partake in a dinner or a cup of sake.
