Kokyo Gaien National Garden

Park / Green Space
This park that opened to the public in 1949 used to be a part of the Imperial Palace grounds. At the “Gaien Area”, in which the Kokyogaien National Garden Plaza is located, with its grassy lawn and black pines visitors can observe historical buildings such as the Sakurada-mon Gate or the Nijubashi Bridge. Other points of interest include a very leafy suburban forest park in the “Kitanomaru Area” and the “Kokyo Gaishu Area” surrounded by 12 moats that were once part of the Edo Castle. It is one of the most popular touristic sites of Tokyo with many visitors coming from inside and outside of Japan.
