This house has for generations since the Kanei period continued to be an indigo store. As the current Tanaka family residence took approximately 30 years to complete from 1854—the highlight is the huge structure with its vivid reminder of its heyday as an indigo store such as the indigo bedding and the grass thatched roof of the main house. It is also wonderful that the stone wall is built up without any gaps as a measure against Yoshino River which repeatedly floods. In 1976 it was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

美しい茅葺き屋根

「見学は予約の方のみとさせていただきます」という張り紙。しかし玄関でもある長屋門から眺める主屋は、茅葺きで重量感のある美しい建物です。ふだんから手入れをきちんとされていることがよくわかります。国の重要文化財です。
外から見ても重厚感漂う

2月の金曜日であったため、中を見ることはできませんでしたが、外からでも十分その歴史の名残、阿波蜂須賀藩の繁栄の足跡を感じます。そして藍の集散地、脇町の蜂須賀藩家老の稲田家、徳島政界の大御所後藤田正晴氏の祖先の後藤田家。みんな藍で財力を蓄えました。それらを思い浮かべ徳島＝藍の歴史絵巻を感じることができました。
平日は開いてませんでした

近くを通ったので寄ってみましたが、日曜・祝日しか開いてないとの張り紙がありました。平日は予約が必要とのことで、あきらめました。入場料は300円です。しっかりした藍商の建屋です、次回再トライします。
