Shizukiyama Shrine
The Shizukiyama Shrine was built in 1878 within the ruins of the Honmaru (central bailey) of Hagi Castle by local volunteers. Formerly designated as a Prefectural Shrine, the Shizukiyama Shrine is dedicated to five deified members of the Mori family―Mori Motanari, Mori Takamoto, Mori Terumoto, Mori Takachika and Mori Motonori―and every member of the family that ruled the Hagi domain is commemorated at the Shrine down to the 12th generation. The Midori Yoshino variety of cherry tree that grows in the foothills nearby is a precious cherry tree variety that can only be seen in Hagi.
