Yokoyama White Snake Viewing Facility

Located next to Kikko Park in the Yokoyama district of Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Yokoyama White Snake Viewing Facility is a place where visitors can see the famous “Iwakuni White Snakes,” which have been designated as a National Natural Monument. The facility has recently been renovated and renamed as the Iwakuni White Snake Museum. Inside the facility there are displays on the biology of the White Snakes, along with models, showings of video footage, displays about the legends associated with the White Snakes, etc. A real effort has been made to ensure that visitors can enjoy learning about the Iwakuni White Snakes.

岩国城ロープウェイ乗り場の前にある施設です。岩国名物のシロヘビを展示しています。こじんまりとした施設ですが、解説は多く、意外と見応えはあります。入場料も安いのでとりあえず入ってみるといいと思います。

かなり小さな博物館。錦帯橋を渡った、吉香公園内にある。実際にシロヘビが見られてよかった。美しかった。去年生まれた赤ちゃんシロヘビもいた。展示は子ども向けで平易な説明だが、イラストや映像がわかりやすくてよかった。

岩国の代表的な観光資源として錦帯橋と並び称される天然記念物の白蛇を展示しています。アオダイショウのアルビノということでそれなりのサイズです。昼間だからかあまり活動している様子は見られません。白蛇自体は全国各地で稀に発生するようですが、代々遺伝していること自体が貴重なのだとか。
