Kanrantei Tea House / Matsushima Museum
Kanrantei is a tea house that was transferred from Toyotomi Hidetoshi’s family residence in Shinagawa, Edo, Fushimi- Momoyama Castle, as a gift to Date Masamune. The second-generation lord, Lord Tadamune moved the building to Matsushima. It was used as a facility “Okariya” for Matsushima sightseeing and entertaining lords, aristocratic women and concubines. The paintings on the fusuma (sliding doors) by Sendai clan painter Sakuma Shozan have been recognized as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
