NAVITIME TRAVEL EDITOR

Sangenjaya’s individuality does not disappear at night.
After dark, when the boutiques close and freelancers return home, the midnight partygoers head to the hippest spots to live out the night.
Late night establishments range from wild dance bars, to cozy cafes to restaurants with late closing hours. Grab dinner in a Mexican restaurant, then indulge in craft beer and end the night on the dance floor. A night in Sangenjaya can go anywhere!

    DJ Bar Tengu Shokudo 天狗食堂

For a wild night out on the local’s side, check out DJ Bar Tengu Shokudo.
The bar/dance club hybrid is small and cozy, with a DJ booth in the back and a bar lining one of the sides. A night here can range from a cocktail and chat with the owner to a disco dance at midnight.
The DJs change but the music remains unique, unlike the standard clubs of Shibuya. DJ Bar Tengu is for the laid back dancer, one who doesn’t mind dancing or relaxing or making new friends with the regulars. The bar is wonderfully decked out in eclectic decorations, making it feel like an old friend’s home.

    Borrachos

Hailing from Naha, Okinawa, Borrachos serves Ryukyu Mexican cuisine, a combination of Okinawan and Mexican inspired food.
Quite hard to find on the mainland of Honshu, Borrachos is the second outpost of the popular Okinawan restaurant and the only location in Tokyo.
The menu is large and customers can choose from a variety of appetizers to share or a burrito or taco plate for one.
The enchiladas are large and topped with cheese and a rarity in Japan: guacamole.
Borrachos’ alcohol menu is quite vast, including a very large variety of tequila for the adventurous.
Awamori, Okinawa’s indigenous and unique liquor, is another menu item that is hard to find in Tokyo. The Awamori mojito is a modern take on the island drink.
Borrachos is open until 4AM on Fridays and Saturdays and until 2AM on other days.

    Rain on the Roof

Those looking for a quiet night in with a book should check out Rain on the Roof, a delightfully quaint name for an equally quaint establishment.
The cafe offers armchair seating in sets of two, ideal for couples wrapping up a romantic date or individuals enjoying their alone time.
Set lunches and dinners are served, alongside a seasonal and fresh dessert menu and drink list. Alcohol, like simple cocktails, wine and beer, are all served as well as a selection of tea and coffee. The cafe is small on the outside, hidden behind a small wooden door. Once inside, visitors will find a warm and inviting cafe, perfect for a late night or rainy day.
Rain on the Roof is perfect for those who want to spend a calm evening out.
The cafe closes at 11:30 PM which provides plenty of reading and relaxing time.

    Pigalle

Pigalle is a tiny bar specializing in craft beer.
The bar specializes in imported beers and ciders, mainly from Europe.
Their tap is rotating so they might offer different beers each time, along with a selection of imported and hard to find bottled beers.
The owners and staff are passionate about craft beer and are happy to give suggestions and recommendations.
The shop is small, only about ten people fit inside, so be sure to arrive early to grab a seat. Pigalle closes early for Sangenjaya, at 1 AM, so it’s a good place to begin a craft beer bar crawl on the way to Shibuya.

    Noodle and Bar Sancha Fukami

Sancha Fukami is not your typical ramen stall.
The restaurant specializes in Tokushima ramen, thin noodles in creamy tonkotsu, or pork based broth, and after noodle drinks.
Unlike most ramen joints that kick patrons out after finishing bowls, Sancha Fukami lets customers linger over their meal and enjoy a drink or two.
The izakakya-like atmosphere has made the restaurant popular with both early evening and late night partiers. There are a few choices of Tokushima ramen to choose from, including a sukiyaki inspired bowl with beef and topped with a raw egg.
Alcoholic drinks vary, but draft beer and a recommend shochu complement the ramen nicely. The owners are very friendly and never pressure customers to leave.
Sancha Fukami closes in the early morning, at 3 AM.
