An art filled cafe in retro Nakazakicho Salon de Amanto

    Salon de Amanto

    Salon de Amanto

Part experimental art space and part cafe, Salon de Amanto is a refurbished century old house turned artist’s canvas. The manager, a local artist in residence, changes often so that the cafe can create a new and unique feel. Located in Nakazakicho, Osaka’s neighborhood that time forgot, Amanto creates a modern workspace in a retro environment. The cafe is warm and welcoming and lets patrons relax over a cup for the whole day. The cafe is made from all recycled material and did not generate any trash when the house was remodeled. Salon de Amanto represents both the old school feeling of pre Westernized Japan and the new culture that is trying to revitalize it. Salon de Amanto is open everyday from 12PM to 10PM.

Looking for more tea rather than coffee? Wad Omotenashi offers a modern spin on the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. The green tea is beautifully presented in handmade ceramic mugs and bowls making it look more like a piece of art rather than something edible. Japanese sweets are also served, making Omotenashi the perfect stop to relax before the next sightseeing spot. In the summer, green tea kakigori, or shaved ice, is very popular. Omotenashi also has a ceramics art gallery where customers can peruse the mugs they just drank from.
