It’s almost a crime to spend time in Kumamoto without tasting the local cuisine. Tairoukan’s onsite restaurant serves up a variety of dinner options, all using locally sourced, Kumamoto specialties offered up in traditional kaiseki style (small Japanese dishes). Featuring fresh seasonal vegetables and classic kaiseki staples like tofu and miso soup, one of the more adventurous menu items you’ll find is basashi (raw horse meat sashimi) a rather unique dish popular throughout Kumamoto. Also on offer is fish fresh off the boat and Kumamoto beef. If you’re a staying guest, Tairoukan also serves breakfast.
