Toba Aquarium is notable for being one of the only places where you can see the dugong, a large gentle species rarely found in captivity that is often credited for being the inspiration for the legend of the mermaid. With a dedication to conservation and education, the aquarium houses many endangered creatures such as sea otters and finless porpoise. Visitors can wander freely for about 1.5km on their visit as there is no set route, rather Toba Aquarium is divided into 12 themed zones.
