    Situated in Kyotango, in the Northern area of Kyoto is Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato, one of the area’s most impressive local onsens, and a great place to consider staying if you’re looking for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist swarmed central Kyoto. Nestled by Kumihama Bay and Shizu Shrine, it’s a great place to set up home base while exploring the northern Kyoto.

    Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato’s biggest drawcards is its hot spring baths. Secluded and private with incredible views of the surrounding area, there’s no better way to soak up the beauty of Kyoto’s north than by soaking in one of these relaxing springs. Filled with alkaline rich hot spring water, this collection of baths are overflowing with health benefits including providing relief for muscle pain, joint pain, and digestive issues.

    There are a selection of baths to choose from but the two main ones are Tenkai no yu and Sinrin no yu. From Tenkai no yu guests can look out onto the neighbouring sea watching it transform from day through to night. On the other side via Sinrin no yu guests are able to soak in the open air, surrounded by a fairytale like bamboo forest. The baths are open from 11am until 9pm daily, but shut on Thursday. The alternate between women and men only, so check at the reception desk for the best time to visit.

    Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato is also home to a space called the Club House, which features a farmers market selling a range of locally produced fresh vegetables and handmade goods in a Balinese inspired building. There’s also a deck and lawn yard on offer for outdoor dining, and those with a green thumb can wander down to the field where the staff and other locals will welcome you to help pick vegetables with them.

    All the food on offer is carefully crafted by talented local chefs who use only the best produce from around the Ukawa area. Featuring farm fresh vegetables to the best seafood in the Kyoto area, dining here is one of the best ways to truly immerse yourself in everything Northern Kyoto has to offer. From Japanese classics like tonkatsu to more ambitious offerings, there’s something for everyone.

    Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato offers a number of different room styles to cater to a vast array of travellers. The hotel also offer a range of activities to really give guests a change to take advantage of everything the area has to offer. Fishing trips, day tours and guided hikes are all regularly held in the area, so if you’re interested in going on an adventure, the friendly staff will be happy to assist with any enquiries. To get to the hotel from from the nearby Amino Station (on the Kyoto Tango Railway) take the Tankai bus for about 50 minutes, and get off at Kyuso bus stop, from here the hotel is about five minutes on foot.
