There's no better place to eat seafood than fresh from Matsushima's seafood market. This locally run market features the best freshly caught seafood from around the area. Open year round from 8am until 5pm there's literally no bad time to visit. Spread over two levels the market offers over 1,500 different types of seafood, but if the options seem a little overwhelming then go for the classic kaki don. Traditionally kaki don is a rice bowl topped with oyster and fried egg. It's simple and delicious and best eaten right here in Matsushima.

    Traditonal snacks at Yukitakeya

A Matsushima tourist staple, Yukitakeya is a must visit destination for everyone popping by the area. This once restaurant and manju (Japanese sweet cake) store is now a trendy little bake house and home wares and handmade jewelry store. Though there are many reasons to check out the store the number one reason is arguably their delicious freshly baked senbei. For those previously unacquainted, senbei is a classic Japanese style baked rice cracker (usually savory but sometimes sweet) that's an incredibly popular snack and omiyage (souvenir gift) option. The senbei at Yukitakeya have made them famous throughout Miyagi and you can see firsthand what all the fuss is about. The crackers cost 300 yen each.
