Moving on from Shimoda and heading further south sits Ku-on in Minami Izu. Taking great pride in appearance the outside of Ku-on is just as stunning as the dishes it serves. This Edo-inspired sushi store combines the ethos, design aesthetics and ingenuity of high-end restaurants in Ginza with the most delicious seafood sourced in the local Minami Izu area. The menu offers a colourful mix of impossibly fresh sushi as well as beautifully cooked, flavour-filled fish and meat dishes over rice. There is even a special children’s menu for the little ones. Ku-on is a unique hybrid of local and metropolitan and one experience you have to try while you’re in the area. The restaurant is open all through the weekend but closes on Mondays so don’t miss the chance to dine at this perfect lunch or dinner spot if you’re in the Matsuzaki area.
