Koiwai Farm is a lush expansive farm which spreads 3,000 hectares along the foothills of Mount Iwate. The farm features a still in use dairy barn built more than 100 years ago, as well as other fresh production facilities and provides a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the cute farm animals that live there – fun for all ages! The farm also features restaurants serving deliciously fresh local cuisine, and even allows visitors to try their hand at riding horses. Be sure to try the specialty ice cream for sale on site made using the day’s fresh milk.

Developed over barren land in 1891, the spacious farm has flourished over the years to become one of Japan’s largest and most beautiful farms, which makes it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The lush greenery of the farm also serves as the perfect backdrop for spreading your arms and legs, breathing in some fresh country air, and taking a stroll amongst the beautiful nature that surrounds. The farm is so big in fact that getting around on foot and seeing it all is near impossible, lucky there’s a handy tractor bus to transport guests around the vast farm grounds. There’s even a miniature kid friendly shuttle for the young ones to enjoy.

Most of the farm’s buildings are more than a century old, including the grand brick built silos constructed in 1908. Many of the structures on the property are even officially registered as National Important Cultural Assets. These grand old buildings aren’t just for show though – many are still in use today. The farm offers guests the opportunity to enter some of the buildings and even pay a little visit to the cows kept in the the massive storehouses. The large number of friendly sheep all along the property can also be seen up close and are especially popular with children.

Every one of the 2,000 cows at Koiwai Farm produces about 50 liters of milk every day, ensuring Koiwai’s status as a leading Japanese dairy company since it was founded. Koiwai farm’s various dairy products are sold throughout Japan, and the name is now synonymous with quality dairy products and it is no wonder that the farm welcomes 750,000 visitors a year.
