Itinerary - A Weekend Away in Furano and Biei

It’s a lovely Saturday morning and you are just arriving at Furano Station. Welcome to to one of the most picturesque towns in Hokkaido! Furano is the perfect place to see one of Hokkaido’s great drawing cards – sweeping fields of lavender which make you feel like you’re experiencing something otherworldly. For the best experience we recommend Heading over to Farm Tomita where you can spend the morning, and most of the early afternoon having a leisurely stroll around the grounds and enjoying the natural beauty the farm has to offer.

After you’re done why not head over to Farm Tomita for a late lunch at the quaint road side café and create the wonderful memory of dining with a sweeping view of wondrous lavender fields. Treat yourself afterwards with some of Furano’s signature soft serve ice cream, which can also be found at Popura Farm.

Spend the rest of the day strolling around the quaint town and find yourself a hidden gem or two – there’s plenty to explore in the center of Furano. And if that’s not your thing then why not head over to the Furano Cheese Factory which lets visitors watch the cheese production process from large windows – a great opportunity to see first hand why Furano is so well known for its fresh farm produce – they even offer free tasting of all the delicious varieties on offer! While there, don’t forget to check out the ice cream factory and pizza factory too – at Furano Cheese factory there’s something to please every palate.

Head on into town and have a nice dinner at one of the town center’s many delicious restaurants, then it's time to have that well earned rest. There are a number of conveniently located hotels near Furano Station, you will also find car rental there. In the morning it’s time to head on over to Biei!

Biei is the dictionary definition of charming, a quaint little town set to a backdrop of rolling hills and flower fields. But for now, your morning is best spent beating the crowds and heading over to the majestic Blue Pond and seeing for yourself one of earth’s real wonders. Though science can easily explain the pond’s colour, it still feels quite magical – a real breathtaking site and a great place for a family picture.

Time to head over to Biei Senka for lunch and treat yourself to a next level delicious fine dining experience at the on site French restaurant, the perfect place to enjoy a satisfying lunchtime feast with stunning open views of the surrounding splendour at the foot of the adjacent hills of the quaint northern town.

Head back into the center of Biei and spend the afternoon exploring the lovely Patchwork Road and Panorama Road areas. This should hold you off for hours as there is just so much to both these stunning areas. Once you’re done exploring and earned your hunger, head on over to one of Biei’s delicious family run restaurants for dinner and taste some of the best cuisine Japan has to offer.

The “Santa no Hige” which is a ripe melon cut in half and topped with plenty of soft serve ice cream is a famous product. The name originated as this product resembles Santa Claus’s beard if it was turned upside down. This dessert has a big impact, and you can enjoy eating the rich milk flavors of this dessert and the melt in your mouth melon flesh together. There are three kinds of soft serve ice cream available, two kinds of topping, and they come in a size which can be shared among family and friends.

Introduction
Depending on the time of year and the angle that you view it from, the water of Shirogane Blue Pond may appear either blue or green. Surrounded by ancient trees (including Japanese Larch), and with the sunlight creating magical effects on the water’s surface, this is a very popular place for taking photos. In winter, the Pond is illuminated, creating an even more mysterious effect. The Pond receives very large numbers of visitors on weekends and during the Golden Week (roughly April 29 to early May) holiday period, so it’s best to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.
