Towadako Backpackers is located along Towada Road (Road 103) and is a short walk away from the lakeshore. This guesthouse stands out among the few other accommodation options, first because of its lodge cabin look and the long front balcony uncommon in the area. Once in the front yard, you feel that you have arrived somewhere special. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the friendly Japanese family running the place and within just a few minutes are accommodated in their rooms. From this point on you are made to feel at home and as if you were a friend coming for a visit.

Whether you choose to stay in one of the dormitory rooms, the private rooms, or the japanese-style room with a balcony, you are sure to get a comfortable space where to relax. If possible, we recommend the Japanese-style rooms on the second floor which are equipped with a tatami mat and the comfort of a bed. These rooms have access to the front terrace where you can enjoy a morning coffee and the view of the mountains across the street. Accommodation at Towadako Backpackers starts at 2,500 yen per person.

Accommodation here includes a continental breakfast served from 7am. Dinner is not included, but guests can choose from the sets of homemade curry or the local specialty, “Bara Yaki”, served at your request for 1000 yen. For those who rather cook their own meals, a spacious kitchen is available for free. It is not uncommon for guests to eat together here and mingle over dinner or some drinks. During the summer months, BBQs occur on occasion and are a great excuse to meet both locals and other guests who tend to come from all corners of the world.

They are more than happy to recommend a variety of leisure activities around the lake area, and in fact, have connections with companies in the town which can lead to some discounts; the Towada Lake Nature Guide Walk Club for example offers its guided morning walks free of charge for those staying at the guesthouse. From the guesthouse, the waterfront is easily accessible, and in no time you’ll be able to enjoy all the amenities in town, including boat rentals, cafes, and of course all the surrounding nature. If you want to explore the town with ease, you can also hop on one of the bicycles available free of charge in the front yard. And if the cool weather of Lake Towada is getting to you, Towadaso Hotel’s onsen is only a 5-minute walk away and open to the public.
