Where to Eat in Setouchi

Shiosai is located a 15-20 minute walk from the Ushimado ferry landing and is a former traditional house that has been renovated and converted into a relaxing restaurant that specializes in traditional Japanese combination platters (teishoku). While you wait for your meal, you can check out the folkcraft exhibit on the second floor. For fresh seafood and meat of this quality, 1000-2000 yen is a great value.

With a 30 year history in the area, Ichimonji is a small udon shop that prides itself on using only locally sourced, organic ingredients. Because everything is local, including the homemade noodles, you can truly enjoy the taste of Setouchi. The price is right too. Lunch or dinner will only set you back about 1,000 yen.

Hotel Limani is a luxury resort hotel located right on the coast. In accordance with the area’s designation as the Aegean of Japan, the hotel features a restaurant that specializes in Greek cuisine and affords diners a stunning view of the beautiful Inland Sea. Dinner starts at around 10,000 yen a head, while lunch is about half that.

Ushimado Acca is a local branch of the high end Italian fusion restaurant, Acca, from Tokyo’s exclusive Hiroo neighborhood. Because of the Mediterranean climate, Setouchi is a great place to source ingredients for Italian dishes. A delicious, one of a kind meal for one will cost between 8,000 to 10,000 yen. Reservations required.

Rossa Cafe & Restaurant is a very popular local spot that takes advantage of the Mediterranean and Aegean climate to produce traditional Italian cuisine. One of the main stars of the show is the stone oven imported from Italy to bake pizza. The prices are quite reasonable, ranging from 1,000-3,000 yen per person.
