    Onna no Eki Nakayukui Market is a local produce direct-sales market located by the side of National Highway 58, offering a wide range of local specialty products from Onna Village; the products on sale include fresh vegetables and fruit picked in the village, as well as handicraft products. Marine products are also on sale, including locally-caught Sea Grapes (Caulerpa Lentillifera), sashimi, tempura, etc. There are also quite a few places to eat in the market, including restaurants selling Okinawan Soba Noodles and Sata Andagi (Okinawan sweet deep-fried buns), fruit bars, etc.

    This long-standing confectionery in Onna Village, one of Okinawa’s premier resort areas, is famous for its purple yam tarts. The building is designed in the style of Shuri Castle and features an adjoining purple yam tart factory. The spacious interior contains several types of sweets that can be sampled by visitors. There are also specialty Okinawan products, making this a great spot for souvenir hunting. In addition, the Onna location offers exclusive purple yam tart workshops where visitors can make their own original tart (reservations required). There are also a restaurant and a cafe, where you can enjoy a meal while gazing out at the emerald green sea before you.

    The Yomitan store is the flagship store of Okashigoten, which makes confectionery using local Okinawan ingredients; the most famous Okashigoten product is their “Original Purple Sweet-Potato Sweets.” Located in Yomitan Village on land that used to be sugar-cane fields, the Yomitan store is easily recognized from the huge flower-covered hat at the entrance. Inside, the store has a wide range of confectionery products created at the company’s own factory, made using typically Okinawan ingredients such as purple sweet-potatoes and brown sugar; these can be purchased in quantities as small as a single sweet. Visitors can also view the production line at the factory next door. There is a restaurant and a café; the Hanagasa Café offers “Purple Sweet-Potato Sweets” fresh from the factory, which are not available anywhere else.

It has contracts with farmers to receive produce directly from them, which it uses to make snow cones, parfaits, “Rich Okinawan jam” containing no additives or artificial coloring, and other items. It also offers Hawaiian-style shaved ice, which comes in standard flavors as well as a “sea salt” flavor made from Ishigaki Island sea salt, among others. Combine them and create your very own treat.

It is made from ice cubes, which are delicate and melt easily in your mouth, kidney beans stewed slowly for a long time and homemade soft sticky rice balls. There are six flavors such as purple yam and coffee liqueur part from the standard “Okinawan red bean soup”.

    Hawaiian Pancakes House Paanilani located along National Highway No.58 in Onna Village is a popular pancake shop which has been chosen as one of Okinawa’s best cafes. The springy and fluffy pancakes using plenty of buttermilk, with a rich buttery flavor are irresistible. The Nuts Nuts pancakes covered with plenty of the unique white nut sauce (limited quantity) and a steak and bacon pancake with a large piece of succulent bacon are popular.

    Lovely place for desserts and pancakes! But the wait can be long for a seat and almost 20 mins for pancakes as they make to order.

It sells bread painstakingly baked with leavening made in-house and domestic wheat grown without agricultural chemicals. It also sells specialty bread made with vegetables grown without agricultural chemicals in the prefecture and bread suitable for people with allergies, an array of 70 kinds of bread in all.

    So charming and delicious! I am loving this bakery and their oven fresh treats that they put out as I am walking in! It is a staple and we will keep going again and again!
