Michi no Eki Kadena, which was renovated in April 2022, is located near the Kadena Air Force Base and is a popular spot for visitors to watch military aircraft takeoffs and landings up close. From the newly built observation terrace on the rooftop, visitors can watch the takeoffs and landings of military aircraft accompanied by the sound of explosions, and the noise meter installed in the observation area gives a sense of the living environment of the nearby residents.

There were many people such as a TV station crew, a mania with a telephoto lens, a school excursion students at the station and it was crowded. You can overlook the runway of Kadena base from this...

About an hour north of the Kusuda IC, you will arrive at Kunigami Village, the northernmost village on the main island. This village, 84% forested and home to the world's only animal inhabitants, was registered as Yanbaru National Park in 2016 and as a World Natural Heritage site in 2021. The tourist base is Yui Yui Kunigami Roadside Station, where visitors can take a rest and enjoy sightseeing.

This is a nice place with cheap local food option in the northern part of Okinawa. Worth a stop to refuel and grab some food as there are not much other options up here in the northern region. You...

Immediately adjacent to Roadside Station Ogimi is the “Longevity Stele,” a stone monument celebrating the fact that Ogimi has the longest-lived inhabitants of any community in Japan.

We dropped by the rest area after a day at Cape Hedo and Daisekirinzan, hoping for a good lunch. Unfortunately, it being past 2pm, the cafe had run out of Okinawan soba and only had curry to offer...

In 1853, Commodore Perry and his delegation visited the village, and in 1908, it became the Yomitan Village Office. The current building was reconstructed in 2005 and registered as a roadside station in 2006. However, only a tourist information center is located there."

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
