    Okinawa Shimajiri-gun Kumejimacho Nishi Mei 816
    A historic building located in Nishime, Kumeijima Town, Shimajiri County. It was the home of the Uezu clan, an aristocratic family whose members served as village mayors for generations during the period of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The house was built in the 1750s. It is said to be the oldest remaining traditional house in Okinawa, and it has been designated a National Important Cultural Property.
  • Ruins of Gushikawa Castle

    Okinawa Shimajiri-gun Kumejimacho Nakandakari
    "Ruins located in Nakandakari, Kumejima Town, Shimajiri County. It is not certain when this castle was built, but it is believed that the ""aji"" (ruler) of the region built it at the beginning of the 15th century. A platform surrounded on all sides by the sea and by a stone wall has been preserved. Archeological excavations have uncovered celadon and other artifacts that indicate trade with China. The castle has been designated a National Historic Monument."

  • Old Sogen-ji Temple, Stone Wall

    This historical structure is located in Tomari 1-Chome, Naha City. It is an arched stone gate remaining in the ruins of Sogen-ji Temple, which was a national mausoleum where the spirits of each generation of Ryukyu Kingdom were venerated. It is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. During the Ryukyu Kingdom period, the ceremony for venerating the previous king before a new king was coronated was performed at Sogen-ji Temple.

  • Itokazu Castle Ruins

    These castle ruins are in Itokazu Tamagusuku, Nanjo City. It is considered to be the resident castle of Itokazu Anji, the third son of Tamagusuku Anji. It boasts the largest scale among gusuku on the main Okinawa island, and various remains are preserved today, including the large-scale castle wall piled up with Ryukyu limestone. It is designated a National Ruins.

    "These castle ruins are in Aza Chinen, Chinen, Nanjo City. They represent the residence castle of Chinen Aji (Lord Chinen, consisting of two castles of ""Miigusuku"" and ""Kuugusuku,"" and thi)s area is one of the places of worship for ""Agari Umaai"", a holy land pilgrimage originating in the Ryukyuan creation myth. Ruins such as the stone-piled arch-shaped castle gate are still maintained today, and have been designated as National Historic Site."

    These ruins are in Hateruma, Taketomi Town, Yaeyama County. It was one of the guard posts constructed on each island for monitoring the coming and going of boats around the islands during the Ryukyu Kingdom period, and it is said that fire signals were used to send information. From the high platform made by piling up Ryukyu limestone blocks, you gain a wide view of Hateruma Island and the vast surrounding sea.

    Nice park and pond surrounding. Areas for children to play. Great place to go to concerts, which are behind and on the adjacent beachfront.

    神社本庁包括下の神社としては日本最南端ということで、必ずお詣りするべく御朱印帳をトランクに入れて宮古島に降り立ちましたが、書き置きでした。 しかし、平良の中心部に建つ壮麗で琉球赤瓦がまぶしい社殿は見ごたえがありました。

    This is another park with long sliders. It builds from the hillside. But I found that the blue slider working not very well so I cannot slide properly. Maybe I am too heavy. :D

    不要な電波の影響を受けないためなのかどうかよくわかりませんが、山の奥に入ったところにあります。入口の案内板は立派でしたが、たどり着くまでの道路はすこし心配になりそうな感じです。 じっくり見ても１時間程度でしょう。サクっとなら20分かな。 展示物はそんなに多くはありません。

    和歌山県の熊野から漂流し流れついた僧侶が開山した高野山のお寺です。伝統的な沖縄の赤い瓦が青空によく映えます。洞窟へもお参りできます。暗いので懐中電灯があったほうがよいです。山門前に駐車場があります。

    那覇一日自由行動で、識名園と首里城に行ってきました。地図上は近いようでも、高低差があって歩いて移動するのに難儀しました。途中に、識名宮という神社がありました。琉球王家と関係があるのでしょうが、詳しい由来などを知りたいものです。

    大きな石碑に「大濱信泉記念館」と刻まれており近くまで行くと直ぐに分かる施設でした。建物自体には「石垣市立教育研究所」と良く分からない看板が掲げられており、恐る恐る入館してみると直ぐ左手方向に資料展示室がありました。普段訪れる人がいないのか、節電中で暗いままで記念スタンプだけ押して早々に退散しました。
