    Founded in 1975, Takenoko is one of the longest-established Yaeyama Soba Noodle restaurants on Taketomi Island. It is also one of the most popular restaurants on the island, with queues often forming at lunchtime. The restaurant’s signature dish is Yaeyama Soba Noodles, featuring a full-bodied yet clear and uncomplicated broth. Takenoko also makes its own special “Kuchu” spice (Koregusu spice) using locally-grown red chillies, which is available for sale as a souvenir gift.

    This restaurant specializes in Okinawa soba. Based on the concept of “harmony,” the soup is made using a painstaking process that takes two days, and it is full of the flavor of dried bonito and packed with savory flavor and richness. There are many types of soba available, including “hon-soki suba” (Okinawan soba with stewed pork spare ribs) and the meat-packed “kenpa suba.” There’s also a “children’s set” available on the side menu, which is perfect for families. As a special lunch promotion, whenever you order soba (with the exception of the mini soba), you can receive either “jushi” (Okinawan paella) or rice for free.

    気になっていたお店に休日のお昼過ぎに訪問。バラックのような佇まいですが、店内は思ったより広いです。券売機で食券を購入するシステムで、各種沖縄そば以外にもカレーライス等ご飯ものも揃っていました。肝心の沖縄そばは、出汁がすっきりしていて美味しい。県外にも発送可能なお土産もありました。

    Maruyoshi Shokudo is a long-established Okinawan Soba noodles restaurant located on National Highway 390 in Sunagawa, Gusukube, Miyako-jima City (between the intersection of National Highway 390 and Prefectural Highway 190 and the intersection of National Highway 390 with the Prefectural Highway 201). The restaurant’s Okinawan Soba noodles, which combine a thick pork-based broth with a touch of garlic with noodles that are boiled to a firm consistency, have been popular on Miyako-jima for many years; the restaurant is also famous for the brown sugar ice-candy that is served after the noodles (in the case of small-sized portions of Miyako Soba noodles, only for children).
