Seaside Drive-in in Onna Village, Okinawa Prefecture is an American-style restaurant. It is open 24 hours, and everything on the menu which is a fusion of Japanese and Western is available for take-out. Despite the American-style facade, it is a fun place which has a range of antique toys and an aquarium where you can see tropical fish. It faces the sea so you can gaze at the beautiful sunset in the evening.

Loved the charm of the place. Our Okinawan friend took us here on our way to our hotel and we thought it was a lot of fun and great value for money!

This main dining room for adults is filled with an atmosphere that is relaxing and brings to mind the openness of a resort. You can enjoy continental European cuisine mixed with ingredients from the prefecture with the panoramic view and sounds of the seaside. Please note that there is a dress code during dinner time.

Enjoy dishes prepared using plenty of Miyako Island ingredients, including food made from freshly caught octopi, which enjoys particular popularity. There’s also “Sumubari soba,” which is Miyako soba topped with island octopus, as well as octopus rice bowls, fried octopus set meals, and many other octopus-themed dishes. Restaurant Kuina is located inside the Kunigami Tourism Products Center and offers various Okinawan dishes, including meals featuring their specialty ingredient, “inobuta” (cross between wild boar and domestic pig). The dishes featuring inobuta, including the soba noodles, shabu shabu (thinly sliced meat boiled quickly with vegetables), and yakiniku (grilled meat) set, are especially recommended. There’s also the uniquely named “Nitoryu” (two-sword-style rice bowl), which was named after baseball player Otani when the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters held their spring training camp in Kunigami Village. The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of room for groups.

    仕事で国頭村に出張した際、訪問しました。お店の入口にある食券販売機で購入するシステム。私は、『くんじゃん豚丼』を注文。 ニンニクが効いていてがっつり系の味わいでした。

Located near the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, this butterfly garden contains a restaurant and Japan’s largest species of butterfly, the “tree nymph butterfly.” This massive area is a treasure trove of rare creatures, including Ryukyu tree lizards and the Polyura eudamippus, which has been designated a Natural Monument. The restaurant offers a splendid view of Minna Island and Sesoko Island as well as “gozen ryori” (“imperial cuisine”) that is prepared with an abundance of Okinawan ingredients. “Choju ryuhan” is a dish featuring rice topped with six different ingredients said to promote longevity and served with a medicinal soup. “Motobu gyugozen” features sweet, soft pork rich in flavor. Plenty of other local cuisine is available as well.

My tour group stopped here briefly for lunch. There is a lovely garden and butterfly greenhouse here. You can see the cocoons and several types of butterflies here. They have set up flower bouquets...

Besides seasonal items, their menu of Okinawan dishes has approximately 50 food and 20 dessert items, and has an impressive lineup of drinks full of originality. The lunch buffet that changes monthly is especially recommended.

    Okinawa Ishigaki-shi Ibaruma 231-2
This diner built in the style of the traditional folk homes of the Yaeyama Islands is located in Akaishi on northern Ishigaki Island. The diner naturally offers classic Okinawan dishes such as Yaeyama soba (a local style of wheat noodles) and chanpuru (Okinawan stir fry). Other popular offerings include the sashimi of the day made with fresh local seafood, fried local fish, soki soba (Yaeyama noodle soup topped with pork spare ribs that has been simmered for hours, , and their Karaya set meals, which feature a hamburger steak made with Misaki beef. We also recommend their fresh shima banana, guava, and mango juices. One of the diner's lesser-known specialties is ikasumi shiru soba. The diner is one of if not the only place on the island that serves this extravagant dish, which features Yaeyama soba served in a squid ink soup made with lots of tender fresh-caught squid. Only a few servings of are served each day.

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
