    Shuri Castle, built in the early 15th century, was the residence of the kings beginning with King Shobashi, who unified the Ryukyu Islands. Along with the restored buildings, some of the walls still retain the stone masonry from those days.

    Beautiful castle, lucky to be still standing after multiple fires over the centuries. There were dancers/entertainment in the grounds when we were there. A couple of gift shops and a cafe...

    This nature-rich park is in the center of Ishigaki Island and covers the entirety of Mt. Banna, 230 meters above sea level. It features open spaces that take advantage of the mountain topography as well as a walkway from which you can observe the subtropical wildlife—a hit with families. The “Emerald Sea Observation Deck” provides a sweeping view of the Yaeyama Islands, Taketomi Island, Iriomote Island, and the ocean itself.

    I came here only because it was close to the cave. This huge park should have a higher rating. There are many lookouts and walking trails. It’s quite hilly so a bit challenging as a cyclist. However...

    This park covers a vast site of 70.4 hectares. It opened in 1987 as the main venue of the national sports festival Kaiho Kokutai, and is divided into a sport zone, a forest and water zone, and a beach zone with a greenery, ocean and sun theme. There are also six sports facilities in the north side of the park, and a bicycle center, paddle boating and an automobile campsite in the south side.

    I live near the park and have been here numerous times. There are always people and cats here enjoying the park! There is a nice track here, athletic fields, courts, water activities, beach access...

    Straddling the boundary between Itoman City and Yaese Town, Shimajiri District, the Peace Memorial Park is a Quasi-National Park that includes beautiful natural scenery and also historical sights commemorating the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. There is an observation platform with good views along the coast. The area within the Park saw some of the fiercest fighting during the Battle of Okinawa, and was the location of the Japanese Army’s last line of defense. Within the Park, the Peace Memorial Museum houses displays of photographs and relics relating to the Battle, as well as the National War Dead Peace Mausoleum, which records the names of all the people who died during the Battle, along with more than 100 individual memorial steles and cenotaphs. Besides being a place dedicated to the dream of global peace and which aims to send out a message of peace, the Park is also a place that many families visit on weekends and public holidays for picnics and recreation.

    Lily Field Park is a park where a million Easter lilies, the flower which is the emblem of Ie Island, proudly bloom. Every year, the “Ie Island Lily Festival” is held to coincide with the flowering period, and many tourists turn out for it. The beautiful scenery weaved with white lilies and cobalt blue ocean can be enjoyed.

    A must go-to if one is going to Ie Island - the Lily Festival is a must. Beautiful scenery by the coast amidst a sea of liies of all colors. One should visit the park in late April and early May...

    This park is in Cape Chinen near Sefa-utaki of Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. Surrounded on three sides by the cobalt blue sea, you can enjoy a stunning view of the vast watery expanse. There’s a gazebo and walking path, not to mention a pleasant sea breeze. And don’t miss the fantastic views of nearby Mt. Kudaka and Komaka Island.

    This large beach has a BBQ area, an area where you can enjoy marine sports, beach soccer and volleyball, and a swimming beach. Besides showers and bathrooms, it has shops that sells items essential to swimming at the beach and other accessories. In addition, it is also highly recommended to go cycling in the park because there is a bicycle center.

    The Okinawa Commemorative National Government Park Ocean Expo Park is a government-run park established to commemorate ’Expo 75 (which was held in Okinawa in 1975) on the site where the Expo was held. The many attractions within the large Park include the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Emerald Beach, the Tropical Dream Center, etc. Electric buses link the attractions within the Park, which receives large numbers of visitors.

    This national park situated in the northern part of Okinawa Island is the 33rd national park in Japan. The park contains one of the largest subtropical evergreen forests in the country and the largest mangrove forests on the Okinawan mainland. The park is home to many unique species such as the Okinawan rail bird, the Ryukyu long-tailed giant rat and the Yambaru long-armed scarab beetle. Wildlife conservation awareness campaigns and exhibits on Yambaru’s culture and history are held at Ufugi Nature Hall in the Yambaru Wildlife Conservation Center located in the region. The center also provides multi-lingual brochures.

You can comfortably go walking along the path around the grassy area. It is also used for events such as ground golf and excursions.

    This approximately 10-hectare park with Hirugi mangrove trees represents Okinawa’s main island. Besides the Yaeyama Hirugi mangrove trees that are a nationally designated Natural Monument, the forest also consists of Mehirugi (Kandelia obovata) and Ohirugi (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza) mangrove trees. Hirugi mangrove trees grow near estuaries where freshwater mixes with seawater in the tropical and subtropical zone, and there is a wooden path and observation deck where you can observe them from up close.

    This is Japan’s 31st national park located about 40 kilometers west of Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture, consisting of the Kerama islands and surrounding waters. The national park has been designated as a national Natural Monument, and is home to a variety of unique wildlife such as the Kerama deer, Ryukyu black-breasted leaf turtle, and the Ryukyu eyelid gecko. The sea area also known as “Kerama Blue” boasts the world’s highest level of transparency and beauty and is ideal for marine leisure such as diving, snorkeling and sea kayaking, and is tremendously popular with divers in particular.

Omotodake the highest mountain in Okinawa Prefecture, or kayaking and bird watching at Nagura-amparu the mangrove wetlands of approximately 160 hectares, as well as driving along the beautiful coastline, etc.

On clear days, this spacious park bustles with large numbers of children, adults, and senior citizens. Many of the park's walkways are paved, ensuring ease of use for stroller and wheelchair users. Park facilities include playground equipment like a jungle gym and seesaw, as well as a red clay multipurpose sports ground and basketball court, and visitors can enjoy a full day of fun here. There's also a real decommissioned steam locomotive on the ground that visitors cannot enter but can view up close.

A folk museum inside the park exhibits farming and fishing tools to which islanders have applied innovation and continual improvements for their lives.

    This comprehensive park uses a hill where a natural forest largely remains. A large park that stretches through the Nakama, Iso and Toyama areas of Urasoe City, it is divided into three zones. The A zone has the Urasoe Castle ruins and Urasoe Yodore that is a prefecturally-designated cultural property, and is the zone with high historical and cultural value. The B and C zones can be enjoyed in various ways such as a space to relax, play with playground equipment, or go on picnics.

    This park utilizes the natural scenery of Cape Zanpa and the coastal area. The north part of the cape is Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Wheelchairs and strollers can be safely used in the park because of the promenade.
