- This is the original shaved ice “white bear” shop in the Tenmonkan G3 arcade. The “white bear”, also known as a Kagoshima specialty, is made by pouring home-made milk on finely shaved ice and topping with colorful fruit. The size is quite large so for those who don’t think they could finish a serving we recommend the baby size. There are a variety of toppings such as chocolate and caramel pudding.

予てよりいきたかったお店。本物のシロクマは本当に美味しかった。2月に氷なんて食べられるかと心配して2人でベビーサイズいシェア。暖かい飲み物とともに注文したが、普通サイズを頼めばよかったと後悔した。メニューも豊富で楽しめるお店。

- This facility includes a tourist information center and restaurant as well as a souvenir shop and farmers’ market selling specialty goods of Kirishima and Kagoshima, located in the middle of the Kirishima hot spring village. Inside are popular foot baths one can use for free or at low cost (40–45 degrees, chloride water). There is also an area selling foods steamed by hot spring water, including eggs, manju (yeast buns) and sweetcorn.

霧島温泉郷(丸尾)にある飲食店、お土産屋、観光案内所もある中心的なスポットです。 公共交通利用の場合には、丸尾バス停の目前に立地しており、バス待ちの際にも利用できます。 韓国岳登山を終え、霧島神宮へ移動するバス待ちの間に利用しました。 私は温泉で蒸した野菜、卵が目に付きました。 値段も手頃だったので「温泉たまご」を買って食べましたが、普通に美味しかったです。

ほぼ鶴だけに限定した施設としては、立派な建物に広い敷地です。こういった資料館・博物館の類いも、動物園なども好きな方ですが、鶴の仲間だけに限定した内容だとさすがに冗長感を感じました。鶴の飛来地や観察センターとも少し離れているのも難点。隣接した施設なら相乗効果もあるんですが。

- Tanegashima Island is thought to have been strongly connected with rice since ancient times. This museum features exhibits related to red rice, which is believed to have been introduced to the island long, long ago from the south. Exhibits cover subjects including the folk customs involving red rice practiced at the Homan Shrine as well as the culture of rice cultivation on Tanegashima Island. Visitors can learn about Minamitane Town through a video about the town's highlights, performing arts, events, and more that is played in the museum's theater. There is also a museum shop that sells red rice, akagome amazake (a sweet drink made from fermented red rice), and other great souvenirs.

- A science museum located a 15-minute drive from the Kagoshima Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. Through facilities such as Japan’s only large film projector-equipped dome cinema and planetarium, the museum presents the laws of the natural world, science and technology, and outer space in a way that is fun and easy to understand. Numerous interactive exhibits include the Sakurajima Sky Cycle, a pedal powered flight simulator which visitors can use to “fly” over Sakurajima; an earthquake simulator through which visitors can experience everything from what mild to strong earthquakes feel like; and a wind simulator which lets visitors experience what truly powerful winds can do. This is a fun-filled destination great for families with children.

科学館自体は、ありふれた施設です。 定期的にやっているイベントなど、子どもたちが楽しめる仕掛けはよいと思います。 プラネタリウムは、期待せずに見たのですが、予想以上に楽しめました。 また機会があれば、プラネタリウムは見てもいいなと思います。

It has various facilities such as a campsite, large play equipment, go-kart field and flying disc golf course on its vast hilly premises. Kaimon, Kinko Bay and Shibushi Bay, and you can also enjoy the flowers that bloom each season. In addition, Kanoya Rose Garden, one of the largest rose gardens in Japan, also adjoins the park.

Situated along a steep river valley, the bathhouse' indoor baths command views of the Amori River and have an open, airy feeling similar to an outdoor bath. The bathhouse' source spring is extremely hot and thus its waters are cooled by diluting them with Kirishima mountain spring water, and customers can make use of two natural free-flowing spring baths, one hot and one lukewarm. The waters of the bathhouse' hydrogen carbonate spring are said to be remarkably effective at treating nerve pain, cuts, burns, and even heat rash. - This is a ravine located on the Shiratani River, a tributary of the Miyanoura River flowing in the northern part of Yakushima. At an elevation of 620 meters, this is situated at a transition zone from evergreen forest to Yakusugi (a type of Japanese cryptomeria or cedar) forest, and here visitors can see Yayoisugi and stout Yakusugi with an estimated age of 3,000 years, and splendid waterfalls cascading through openings in granite builders can be seen at every turn. This is a magical old growth forest that reportedly served as the model for the animated film Princess Mononoke, and visitors will enjoy the mountain streams weaving through the natural beauty.

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
