- A park located on a 192-meter-high hill. The park is located a 25-minute drive from the Mizobe-Kagoshimakuko interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. The spacious park’s facilities include a children’s field, roller slide, 1,350-meter-long go-cart course, and miniature golf course. There’s also an outdoor stage, Ferris wheel with a sweeping view of the Kokubu Plain, and other facilities which can entertain a family with children all day. The park’s 20-meter-high observatory boasts a spectacular view of the city. In April, visitors can enjoy the site of cherry tree and azalea blossoms, and each year the park bustles with visitors come to relax and enjoy the flowers.

- A historic tourist center built in 1974 located a one-hour drive from Amami Airport. The building stands two stories above ground and also has a basement floor and contains exhibits and videos on the poisonous habu snake. Established to convey the dangers of this animal, here visitors can learn about the history and ecology of habu. In addition to watching videos of habu and mongooses fighting, the museum has real live habu on display as well as specimens of animals eaten by habu. The facility’s souvenir and gift shop carries things like habu skin wallets and keychains as well as habu health foods.

- A nature park located in the northeast of Kagoshima City. 12 varieties of cherry trees alone grow on the grounds, and in spring, first Yoshino cherries come into bloom followed by more rare varieties like Kawazu-zakura cherry trees and Izu no Odoriko cherry trees. Also a renowned destination for plum and azalea blossoms, more than 70 thousand plants spanning some 140 varieties grow on the grounds, including Japanese iris, hydrangea, and sunflowers. The park has been selected for inclusion in a list of Japan’s 100 best city parks, the park’s observatory situated on a 234-meter-high rise gives a sweeping view of the surrounding area. Magnificent, beautiful Sakurajima stands just across Kinko Bay.

- This expansive park is located along Prefectural Route 118 on a 500-meter-high plateau straddling the border of Kumamoto Prefecture and Kagoshima Prefecture. The roughly three-hectare park has been planted with rape blossoms, hydrangea, cosmos, and other flowers. It is best known for the 100,000 rape blossoms that bloom in the spring and the 250,000 cosmos that bloom in the fall. Many tourists to visit the park during the cosmos season to view the vast fields of pink flowers from the park's observatory. Visitors can also purchase local vegetables at the markets held in the park at this time. The park also holds hands-on food education events such as making ice cream with milk produced local in Izumi as well as pizza making using a brick oven.

- "This massive sago palm located on the grounds of Sakai Shrine has become a symbol of Nakatane Town. The seven-meter-tall, 10-meter wide cycad has a trunk that measures more than two meters around. Estimated to be more than 700 years old, it is purported to be Japan's oldest sago palm. The site of its curved boughs supported by stout pillars is quite stunning. The Japanese name for this iron-loving plant, ""sotetsu,"" is said to have originated from a legend that giving iron to a weak sago palm will rejuvenate it."

- A park situated on a small hill with a view of the city located in Isa City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Famous for its “1,000” cherry trees and two-kilometer-long avenue of cherries, the park was selected for inclusion in a list of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in 1990. During the peak blooming period, the park is lit up at night with over 1,000 paper lanterns, giving visitors the chance to enjoy beautiful views of cherry blossoms both during the day and in the evening. Facilities include a vast natural grass lawn, children’s square, and playground, and the park bustles with visitors year-round. In addition, the park grounds encompass Tadamoto Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Shimazu clan’s greatest military commander, the mighty Niiro Tadamoto; a poem-inscribed monument to Tadamoto can also be found in the park.

- This is the largest yakusugi (a type of Japanese cryptomeria or cedar) growing naturally on Yakushima. Discovered in 1966 by Mr. Teiji Iwakawa, its age is estimated to be 7,200 years. The trunk has a circumference of 16.4 meters and is covered in bumps, a characteristic of Yakushima sugi, and has a very mysterious appearance. Those wishing to visit the tree should note that proper mountain trekking gear is needed as one must pass through impregnable primeval forest and follow an old logging rail track, a trip that entails more than 10 hours of walking altogether to and from the tree. This tree is included in the World Heritage Site of Yakushima, and since touching the tree is prohibited, visitors can appreciate it from a platform located approximately 15 meters away.

- A park built on the grounds of the Chiran Peace Museum. Park facilities include a track and field ground, multipurpose sports ground, soccer field, tennis courts, Japanese archery ground, sumo ring, and martial arts dojo. Entry to the Chiran Peace Museum require the purchase of an admission ticket. The grounds are planted with cherry trees in various places memorializing the kamikaze fighters which took off from an airfield in the area and the picturesque trees near the park entrance have even been used to film a movie scene. When the cherry trees are in bloom, they are lit up at night for visitors to enjoy, and each year in spring the park bustles with people come to view the blossoms.

- This cave is located in Kareigawa, Hayato-cho. It is situated in a hillside on the western side of Myoken Hot Spring. It is the home of Takeru Kawakami, who was the leader of the Kumaso tribe who lived in southern Kyushu in ancient times and is said to have killed Yamato Takeru by dressing as a woman. On the inside walls of the cave that is ten meters wide, six meters high and 22 meters long, there is modern art by the artist Sadayuki Hagihara.

- This firefly habitat is located downstream of the Kihoku Dam. It is possible to observe the wild dances of light performed by naturally occurring genjibotaru (Luciola cruciata), heikebotaru (Luciola lateralis), and himebotaru (Luciola parvula) fireflies around the Hirabo Kasseika Center from late May to early June. Local volunteers hold a firefly festival each year during the firefly season. An approximately two-kilometer-long firefly-viewing course is set up for the festival. Convenient signs indicating the best firefly-viewing spots are installed in front of the center. Many people visit from within and without the prefecture to see fireflies, which are a fixture of summer in Hirabo.

- The Largest Banyan Tree in Japan

- This huge banyan tree is a five-minute drive from Okinoerabu Airport. The tree was planted in 1898 by the first graduates of Kunigami Elementary School; in more modern times, the tree was selected for inclusion in a new list of Japan's 100 most famous trees. Banyan trees are a tree in the mulberry family which are distributed in subtropical regions; as they grow, their multiple, divergent trunks complexly intertwine with each other. This particular tree has been designated a Natural Monument by the city and is eight meters tall, its trunk is six meters circumference, and its branches cover a 22 meter span in total. Although the tree grows on the grounds of Kunigami Elementary School, it is open to the general public, and tourists may take photos of the tree.

- This large camphor tree standing next to the torii gate of Iikura Shrine is said to be some 1,200 years old. 13 meters tall and 25 meters in circumference at the base, the tree is the third largest camphor tree in the prefecture after the Kamo no Okusu and the Shibushi no Okusu. A large hollow equal in size to a six tatami mat room (roughly 11 square meters) has formed in the trunk. In spite of this, the tree's branches grow thick with leaves and the tree itself is beautifully formed, and it has been designated a Natural Monument by the prefecture.

- This mountaintop crater lake, praised for its cobalt blue water, is the largest in Japan and is situated on top of the 1,241-meter-high Kirishima Mountains. Found amidst virgin Japanese fir and southern Japanese hemlock forest, a stone-paved mountain trail makes it possible to reach the pond from the trailhead in about 40 minutes. Another walking path circling the pond can be walked in about two hours. Visitors at the beginning of spring can see Japanese witch-hazel and Rhododendron kiusianum blooming in profusion along the crater wall; in autumn, the fall foliage of maples and red pines; and in winter, frost-covered trees.

通りがかりにあった西郷どんが湯治で宿泊した家に立ち寄りました 温泉掛け流しの足湯や物産館も併設されてます 鹿児島郷土[がね]を買ってみました さつま芋入りのかき揚げですね 揚げた姿が「かに（鹿児島弁で がね）」に似ています サクサクで美味しかったです 他の物産は、鹿児島産ではない物も多かったのは、どうかな ? と感じました

Kagoshima Areas
Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash.
