We stayed here with family of 4 and enjoyed every minute of it. The most impressive experience was the dinner (see photo attached). Bath is shared so if you don’t like it better stay somewhere else...

According to legend, when the god Ninigi-no-Mikoto descended to Earth here, there was no water, and so the god Amenomurakumo-no-Mikoto returned to heaven and brought back a water seed which became the source of a spring. This Japanese zelkova is said to be over 1,300 years old, and a natural spring wells forth in abundance from its roots. The water of the spring seemingly never increases or decreases in amount, and is still viewed today as a sacred spring; it is also the source of Manai Falls. During Takachiho Shrine's annual festival in the spring, and Kushifuru Shrine's annual festival in the fall, a portable shrine is brought to the spring as a temporary home for the respective shrine's principle god and traditional performances of kagura song and dance are held as an offering.

"This Buddhist temple is one of the Kokubunji Buddhist temples and nunneries built across the country on the order of Emperor Shomu in the Nara period. Just when the temple was erected is not clear, but as the land of Hyuga is recorded alongside Echigo and Tanba in the passages of the ancient ""Shoku Nihongi"" history text, it is believed the temple was founded sometime in a 16-year period between 741 and 756. In ancient times, the temple's grounds spanned some four hectares and it is said to have had a Kondo main temple, lecture hall, and pagoda, but these were lost in a fire in 1791. The temple's five statues depicting Ratnasambhava, Bhaisajyaguru, Mahavairocana, Amitabha, and Gautama Buddha were completed the following year as part of efforts to restore the temple."

"This site is believed to be the location of the residence of Koremune Tadahisa, who was named the official in charge of the vast Shimazu Estate in the Kamakura period. When the site was turned into a park, archeological digs were conducted on portions of the grounds, revealing the remains of an ancient road and post holes. Tadahisa took the name of the estate when he received the position, changing his name to ""Shimazu Tadahisa,"" in turn becoming the founder of what would later become the noted Shimazu clan. In turn, Miyakonojo City is said to be the birthplace of the Shimazu clan and a stone monument stands here noting this fact."

This historic site is located in Hososhima Port. This is the place where it is believed that the bodies Kuroda Domain vassal Kaiga Kyumo and two other imperial loyalists washed ashore when they were slaughtered while under guard and being escorted after being captured in the Teradaya Incident which occurred in Kyoto's Fushimi in 1862 in the late Edo period. It is said that local residents who found the bodies erected a tombstone for them, and today a more recently built gravestone can be found on the islet marking the presumed location. At low tide, the site becomes connected to the peninsula, making it possible to walk it.

    Miyazaki Hyuga-shi Mimitsumachi
"According to legend, this famous area, situated on the north side of the Mimitsu Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, is the place where Emperor Jinmu set sail. Accordingly, as a sacred site from which the emperor is believed to have departed, it was deemed the ""birthplace of the Japanese Navy."" The site's monument stands at the entrance to Tateiwa Shrine and is inscribed with calligraphy by Mitsumasa Yonai, an admiral in the Japanese Navy who was also Prime Minister of Japan at the time the monument was built. The huge stone monument is over 10 meters tall; a modern naval vessel anchor is displayed in front of it."
