"""Takamagahara ""is the name of heaven according to Japanese mythology. Its name literally means ""the world above the heavens,"" and it is said to have existed before the Earth was created. Its name appears in the beginning of the ancient ""Kojiki"" historical record as the place from which the gods were born. Takamagahara Yohaijo is located on a small hill extending south from Kushifuru Shrine. According to legend, this small hill is where gods would pray to heaven from afar in yearning after they had descended to Earth, and it is known as a mystical ""power spot"" where heaven and Earth are connected."

"This six-sided gazebo, standing on a small hill, is modeled after the ""Arbor of 100 Flowers"" on Nakhwaam in Korea. A pair of bells on the observatory were erected as a symbol of friendship with Korea and are call the ""Bells of Bonds."" They are inscribed with a message in Korean which reads, ""This sound is sent to Nango Village, born of Bakeje, from Buyeo, ancient capital of Bakeje."" It is said that when couples, parents and children, or siblings ring the bell, their bonds grow stronger, and no love pledged here will ever break. Many couples who come here right messages on padlocks and lock them onto a provided metal sculpture as a symbol of their love for one another."

An unmissable highlight of Kyushu, Miyazaki prefecture satisfies nature lovers with its dramatic gorges cut out of rugged cliffs, leading into waterfalls and beaches of green-blue water popular among surfers. Takachiho Gorge in the north of the prefecture tells a tale of centuries-old Japanese mythology in a fantastic setting, allowing visitors to explore the waters by boat before heading up to the cave at the Awano Iwato Shrine, where the sun goddess was said to have hidden, plunging the world into darkness.
